Ode to Violet

We have come up with the beginnings of Violet's song already...  Maddie has her own song that has a short version and a long version. The short version starts with meeting her in China, our time in China, coming home, and how we all became a family.  The long version starts from her China Mama and China Baba and just covers a longer period of her life.

Her song is to the tune of "You are my Sunshine"- the first two verses go like this:

You are our Maddie, our sweet sweet Maddie,
you make us happy, when skies are grey,
you'll never know hear, how much we love you,
our sweet, our sweet Maddie girl...

Back in that year dear, when we first met you,
and we held you in our arms, oh how we smiled so,
because we loved you,
our sweet, our sweet Maddie girl...

It goes on, but it's long!

Now we have started Violet's song- so far it's only one verse, but it's short enough for Maddie to remember and be able to sing most of it:

To the tune of Twinkle Twinkle little star...

Violet, Violet our sweet girl,
you are in our family now,
Mama and Baba waited for you,
Sister Maddie waited too,
Violet, Violet our sweet girl,
you are in our family now.

This morning in the car, Maddie wanted her toy cell phone. She dialed and said, 'Hi Violet? Yeah, so....I can't wait for you to come home, and I'm going to teach you how to play dress up, and yeah, soooo.....and sooo.....yeah......and soooo.....okay bye!"

We are in for a great adventure!

Just a little note to say...

We have been matched!

Her name is Feng Min, soon to be Violet Min. She was born Jan 20, 2010. She is living in Dong Yang SWI in ZheJiang province. We got our Pre-approval on May 9, and are anxiously waiting for LOA, or "Letter of Approval". This is the paper we need from China in order to move forward on US paperwork.

We are hoping to get LOA this week or next....or really ANY DAY now! We hope to be traveling by October this year! Madeline is VERY excited and loves to sing songs about and hear songs about her sister Violet!

Birthday Surprises

Maddie will make almost anything into a guitar, although it's most reliably her umbrella, which she will call her "umbrella guitar"- go figure. She carries it around the house singing and strumming...So... we decided it was time to get her a real guitar for her birthday.

To say she was excited is an understatement!

She was using a little cone shaped ice pack that goes into one of her drink bottles as a microphone- getting it to stand up and trying to sing into it. So Jeremy (Amazing husband and Baba that he is!) set up a microphone to just her height in the music room and now they love to go down and play together.

Although she is very particular that he is playing drums correctly, and sometimes she decides to go and show him "this way!" And sometimes she just says "let's switch!"

Birthday celebrations

Maddie turned 3 a few weeks ago. We had a butterfly party with butterfly cupcakes, butterfly wings for the little girls, and bug boxes for the little boys- it was very fun!
And then there were the "day after" cupcakes....yes...that's a nightgown... I don't recall specifically letting her have a cupcake in the morning, but I guess I must have. We fall into the category of "get it out of the house as quickly as possible"- so if it means cupcake for breakfast the day after the party to finish them off, so be it. Not always, but this has been known to happen. Then again, we only have cupcakes a few times a year...and her main interest was the butterfly on the top which is made of chocolate. She had one little nibble of the frosting and declared herself finished with the whole cupcake experience.
