day +99 to +101
It's officially time to stop counting the dates from Transplant because we are HOME!
I feel pretty confident in saying ZiLong has had his LAST blood transfusion! It's that date that we could never celebrate until we got far enough past it to know he would not need another one, so we can celebrate now. it has been 36 days since ZiLong's transfusion.
Before Transplant, he had been going to the hospital every 28 (up to about a year and a half ago) and in the last year and a half, it had been every 21 days. Each time he received 2-3 units of blood. This had been happening since he was 6 months old in China. A bit over a year and a half ago his body developed an allergic reaction to blood- the very thing he needed every 21 days and his body started reacting to it. As a result, we tried all manner of antihistamines and allergy meds with the hospital, finally settling on resorting to washed blood to reduce the plasma volume. As of now, we are cautiously optimistic that the result we see show he is transfusion independent!
All of his counts are still low- as of last Monday:
WBC: 2.2
ANC: 1100
HgB: 9.4
Platelets: 37
BUT- he is feeling good! He has good energy and the current level of hemoglobin would have made him feel awful pre-transplant, but now he is now handling that lower level and feeling so much better. That will rise over time like his other counts.
