Photos!

It's a whirlwind- Violet is a whirlwind by herself, but with two girls, wowee! We are still on family leave (Jeremy and I take turns so I'm home 3 days a week, he is home 2 days a week)- so I cannot imagine how we'll figure it all out when we are both back to work full time! Weekday dinners are going to get a whole lot simpler. I've already started making a list of dishes that take 30 minutes (give or take) and that both girls like. Unfortuantely, it's not very long!

Now some of what I know everyone is really waiting for....some pictures!
I absolutely adore this red polka dot dress. It was a recent hand me down, so Maddie never wore it- thankfully, it is quite big on Violet so it should fit her for a good year! Believe it or not, Maddie can actually wear the pink and red polka dot sweatshirt that Violet is wearing- Violet just loves wearing it becuase Big sister wears it, although it really is more Violet's size! It's a bit snug on Maddie, but not much!
Maddie kept offering Strawberries to Violet often enough that Violet figured they must be good- now there is competition for the strawberries in our house! Maddie has not yet worked out that Violet was happy as a clam not knowing she liked strawberries and that her strawberries were safe and she could have just accepted it, but no, she insisted to share. Guess that is not a bad quality at all- and now she just knows she has to be fast to get them!
In the last post I talked about Violet's SPD- this is one of the things that she does- she is a sensory seeking girl- so climbing up to high places and having no fear at all (in fact thriving on the adrenaline of danger) is an issue for her. It looks innocent enough that she is sitting high up on the back of the couch, until she suddenly lays down, laughs a great big laugh, and quickly rolls to the cushion part of the couch. So far, no injuries. So far....
A few weeks ago we took the girls for a little hike in a close by state park- Maddie walked most of the way but decided to jump on for a short ride on Bob toward the end. It was a beautiful day!
The first OT we went to see for Violet was a part of a specialty Children's hospital- we really had not done our research and just went straight for the children's hosptial OT group because we assumed they would be good. And I'm sure they are, but the evaluation was a big let down because they really were posing questions looking for a sensory AVOIDING child, not a sensory seeking child. In fact, we could tell how far off base they were when we got the evaluation saying that one of the goals of OT was that by the end of 24 weeks Violet would be able to play in "messy art" for 10 minutes without washing her hands....Um.....check. No problem there.... And yes, there were questions about "does she like her hands clean?" which were answered as "yes, when she finishes eating she likes her hands clean..." Fortunately, we found a wonderful new OT and had a very good intake evaluation last week and will be starting OT with her this week. One who listens and is supportive of us, and communicative with us! Yay!
Violet just turned 2 in late January- a few pics from the Party...
Her first view of the panda cupcakes- unfortunately this far away pic is the only one I have of the completely finished panda cupcakes! So sad becuase they were adorable! I did try to take "process" pictures along the way, I just forgot the final one!
Here they are "mostly" finished- they also had feet and little white claws on the end of their paws. Very Very cute! And very yummy! However, due to their size (one large and one small cupcake) most people only finished about half a cupcake!
We have roles in our house- I am "the Queen", Jeremy is "king Midas", Maddie is "The Princess"- sometimes Princess Alex (not sure where that came from) and Violet is "the Fairy." This was a daytime dress up event, but our saturday and sunday mornings lately have started with early morning dress up. The girls wake up early, they change out of pajamas and put on dress up clothes, we pretend we are sleeping for another 1/2 hour. Of course it's not really sleep, but maybe in 30 minutes we get an extra 5-10 minutes of snoozing split over that half hour before we realize, no, we really do have to get up....
